UAW Local 5285

President's Pen !

Brothers and Sisters,

I have had several conversations with Duke Energy Representative. Duke Energy has heard our concerns and responded to our need.  The Freightliner/Daimler plant in Santiago, Mexico will not build any of Duke Energy Trucks.  Starting December 01, 2009 Duke Energy Trucks are being built at Freightliner/Daimlers’ North American, Mt. Holly, NC Facility.

Thanks to all of you for your telephone calls, emails and your willingness to build the Duke Energy Trucks. I would like to send a special thank you to the UAW Region 8 Staff, NC AFL-CIO and UAW Local's 5286 and 3520 for all of their help. It really helped me to voice our concerns.  I want to thank Duke Energy for asking that their trucks to be built at our Mt. Holly, NC Facility.

We will continue pursuing our Freightliner/DTNA Corporate Campaign (Buy America Campaign). This campaign continues to go strong. We are asking local business to stand with us in our efforts to bring back jobs to the United States of America. We are now receiving volunteers throughout the South East Region wanting to join us in our buy American Campaign. As North Carolina Citizens you can help with the Buy American Campaign from your home. You can call your state; city and local government and ask them to purchase trucks built at the North Carolina Freightliner/DTNA Mt. Holly Facility. We will continue our efforts of letter writing, phone banking, rallies, informational picketing, legislative contacts, as well as media events and activities.

We will notify the membership of our next up coming event.
