There have been some questions raised about the mandatory overtime work this Saturday, in Article 8 Section 5.6 on page 33 it lays out the mandatory Saturday language. The Company called me the week prior to the May 17th mandatory and stated they had extreme market demands and to help reduce farm out they needed to use the 17th as their third Saturday this quarter. I assumed they would put this on the posted overtime sheets but I did not follow up and shame on me, I should know better. To explain what is happening and to document the third Saturday being used for the second quarter of this year I am posting this notice. The Company is within it’s contractual rights to schedule the 3 Saturday’s this month, the 10th and 31st are the 2 non-consecutive they are allowed for May and the 17th is the additional Saturday afforded them for the quarter as stated below.

Article 8 Section 5

6.                 If the Company deems it necessary to work overtime in a complete overtime group, the overtime may be mandated without first soliciting volunteers.

When overtime is scheduled, it will be limited to no more than two (2) hours on a daily basis and no more than eight (8) hours on Saturdays.  It is further understood that no employee will be required to work in excess of twenty-four (24) hours of overtime per month, including a maximum of two (2) non-consecutive Saturdays per month. The Company may schedule up to four (4) additional Saturdays per contract year if necessary, in response to extreme market demands. These additional Saturdays will be limited to one (1) per quarter (Non-consecutive Saturday provision does not apply). Also one (1) additional Saturday may be mandated for physical inventory for all materials personnel.

If Saturday overtime is scheduled; by the Company, and then if not cancelled before the end the employee's shift on Thursday, the day scheduled will count towards the monthly maximum.

The provisions of this Article that restrict the right of the Company to mandate any overtime work may be suspended temporarily by mutual agreement, if operations are interrupted by emergency situations such as extended power shortages, fire, tornado, flood, hurricane, or other acts of God; government mandated work, regulatory training, major equipment problems, and significant material shortages.  The Union will not unreasonably withhold its agreement.                                                    Greg Suggs Shop Chair,
